Evaluation of the aircraft:

Network Sensitivity: 7 / 10
Wifi Effectiveness: 9 / 10 (full power battery mode) => 7 / 10 in energy saving mode.
Sensitivity Bluetooth: 8 / 10 unimpeded 10-15m
Battery Efficiency: 8 / 10 (approximately 6 days standby) and 6 to 7 hours in intensive use.
Effectiveness of the GPS: with 6032 + Tomtom map of western Europe (about 1GB) + map of New York City.
=> 8 / 10 for the time to fix about 10 seconds in open space and 20 to 30 seconds in space covered (or indoors near a window) with the ephemeris (program HTC Quick GPS) but without using A-GPS (using the geolocation using the GSM network).

HTC Tytn2 TomTom 6

The Tomtom software is not included with packs operators but with the purchase of mobile "naked" (without subscription or discount operator).

With Orange, the navigation software provided and the application Orange Navigation ". This software requires a subscription to 10 euro / month for the voice navigation while driving. Without this option, the GPS works but no voice guidance.

For TomTom version packs outside operators, you have to download a free city and then the voice guidance is free. Of course, it is better to buy the map of France not to be too limited in your movements. Frequent travelers in European countries may prefer to have the card throughout Western Europe, but this card is more expensive and requires much more space on your memory card (about 340 MB for the map of France and almost 900 MB for the map of Western Europe).
For example, the map of a big city like Paris occupies about 35 MB of your memory card.

The HTC TYTN 2 has only one speaker badly located on the rear of the unit (next to the objective of the NPC). When using GPS in car by car holder you have the sound be a little bit muffled.

AFN 3 million pixels is very effective outdoors with natural light but as soon as the lights dim or is happening in electric lighting, the lack of a flash is cruelly felt, and the picture quality of s' feels strongly.

The system offers Windows Mobile Windows Media Player as player video / audio by default (but if it does not you might as well install another as the excellent TCPMP (freeware) which allows you to read most of video formats (including videos to DivX or MKV for example).

The HTC Home software is included in the original TYTN 2. This software provides a convenient interface on the "Today" this Pocket PC. It is composed of five modules:

HTC Home module horloge

HTC Home module raccourcis contacts

HTC Home module meteo

HTC Home module applications préférées

HTC Home module réglage son

The PDA phone also comes with WorldCard Mobile application that can scan a business card with the NPC and automatically inserts the data read from the card into your contacts System (OCR).

We also find the latest version of Microsoft Office Mobile including Word Mobile, PowerPoint Mobile and Excel Mobile.

Microsoft Office Mobile

To easily manage the connectivity of the mobile, there is the Comm Manager interface that allows you to turn into a pressure finger WiFi or Bluetooth among others.

If you have a wireless network at home or at work, HTC and a dream for all of your connections to the Web automatically switch your wireless network when it is active (thus saving on your data plan).

Skype communications software leader in VOIP is available in Pocket PC (freeware) and it lets you communicate via free Wi-Fi network in your voice or written contacts with the world.

Skype Mobile

The start menu is also quite clear and offers easy access to applications you use frequently.

Windows Mobile menu démarrer

If you do not use Skype, Live Messenger (formerly MSN Messenger) is included with your version of Windows Mobile and allows you the same way to communicate for free with your contacts via your WiFi network.
Skype and Live Messenger also work very well via 3G (or Edge, or GPRS) but in this case communications are found naturally charged out of bundle or when using your mobile data plan if you have purchased one.

Accustomed in recent years to use smartphones running the Symbian operating system, I was rather surprised by the efficiency and velocity of the final version of the Windows Mobile OS, the 6, released in February 2007 and that team now most pocket PC communicating upscale.
Of course, it is possible to encounter a few small bugs but they are 9.99 times out of 10 due to a third party software installed on the OS.

File organization is rather simple to take over if we already know a little structure of big brother Windows XP because she resembles.
All files on the HTC Tytn2 are accessible via your PC or Mac (I have not found a solution compatible with Linux but is seeking it must exist).

Of course, connections with your computer are using the ActiveSync software (freeware included with your camera on the Application CD). ActiveSync allows more access to files from the device to synchronize all your data (contacts, calendar, mail, files, Internet Favorites, ...) with your email program (the setup is very simple if you use Outlook , Outlook Express or the new Microsoft Live Mail).

For Thunderbird users, synchronization is also possible with BirdieSync (fee) or FinchSync (Freeware).
If like me you connect your Pocket PC on multiple computers, you should know that ActiveSync only supports two synchronization profiles (two machines so) and be careful that your synchronization settings are identical on both computers.

If you buy the HTC TYTN2 "naked" (excluding pack operator), you have two CD in your package.

The first CD contains software and documentation ActiveSync on your device and the Windows Mobile 6.
The second CD contains the applications offered by HTC, one finds:

- Tomtom Navigator 6032, the GPS navigation software well known.

Tytn2 TomTom 6HTC Tytn2 TomTom 6

- Sprite Backup: excellent little program that lets you make full backups and partial (no files on the memory card) from your PC to your Pocket PC. You can also schedule backups at regular intervals.
- Spb GPRS Monitor: application to manage your consumption data without the need to consult the following Consumer your operator. After a small setup, type of data plan you have, the consumer price data outside of the package and day of the month where you get all of your data plan. Then, the software automatically tracks your consumption data and alerts you (configurable alarms) when you reach the level of consumption that you previously defined (a notification warning you when you reach 90% of your data plan for example).
- An application for optimizing your laptop using the web to your PC via the use of 3G mobile device. (untested).

In this second video (always in English), there is a new test of the HTC TYTN 2 but this time the focus is on content (software / applications).

TYTN2 comparison between HTC and the Nokia N95:

Both phones are excellent mobile companions but the least we can say is they are not at all the same audience.
The HTC is destined for a professional audience, amateur performances and hoping to have an ultra versatile to best manage the personal and professional life.
The Windows Mobile system allows easier management of connections to the desktop (Windows-compatible system with a maximum interface requires professional) or at home.

The touch screen and integrated QWERTY keyboard allow ultra fast access to data (less fumbling through menus).
The Nokia N95 is still to him a very good phone for incidental use its functions in the professional world. Unfortunately, one quickly realizes that it is not practical to use in this context because the focus has been on the side in this multimedia device and functions unique to professional use are more difficult to access .
The fact that the N95 has no touch screen or keyboard (besides the keyboard type "mobile" in this mode "slider") plays for much of this impression.
I think the Nokia N95 is a smartphone that play is perfect for teenagers or young adults but is unable to compete with the HTC TYTN 2 when it comes to work with. Try typing your mail on a laptop keyboard for a few weeks to realize how it can practice.
This is very unfortunate for the N95 because otherwise their functions are exceptionally well furnished. It has the advantage for him to have a good digital camera of 5 megapixel Carl Weizz signed with a flash and two speakers (left and right of the unit) to generate a stereo sound quality (for listening to music or ringtones). It regrets that the compression ratio chosen by Nokia is a little too high when using the NPC because even if the result is sympathetic to the views of the characteristics of the NPC could have been a better final result and photos much better qualities.

HTC TYTN2, PDA et Nokia N95

These two motives have a GPS chip built with efficiency appears roughly similar on both platforms (Windows Mobile and Symbian). But even in GPS mode, we note that the lack of touchscreen is a handicap for the Nokia as the menu navigation GPS is very simple via the touch screen on the HTC, so it can be perilous the N95 that we are obliged to take in hand to change the options. Also it is much easier and faster to change his route on the HTC on the Nokia as it is stopped at a red light for example (note the manipulations of a GPS device or a mobile device is prohibited and may be dangerous for you or others when you're driving).

Finally, I would put a 9 / 10 to HTC TYTN 2 and 7 / 10 Nokia N95 for all small defects found earlier.
