Sapphire Radeon HD 4890 2 GB or when the top is well worth the Ati Nvidia top
By Keroin Wednesday, 02 December 2009 under ComputersHaving purchased a few weeks ago a new graphics card with an ATI GPU, here's a little feedback and a little review of the Sapphire Ati Radeon HD 4890 2 GB Vapor-x that, although many cheaper is just as powerful as its direct competitors with Nvidia ...
After many years of loyalty and a lot of different models of the brand Nvidia, a small tower in the upscale brand competing Ati quickly made me realize that differences in rates pretty impressive does not justify absolutely between the two brands, Ati is better in value in recent months ...

Here is the Sapphire HD 4890 2 GB at its assembly then replace what was a MSI 8800 GTS Nvidia aging but still in the game in performance:

A bundle of accessories provided but not quite enough is available in the box, no game available as NVIDIA, but good games offered are not terrible generally not serious ...
Presence of a Cross-Fire adapter (to add a second graphics card), the cd drivers, two power adapters (handy if your diet lacks the required two doses), an HDMI / DVI.
The menu is impressive but not much more than the 8800 GTS not too worried for placement in the box.

Power level must still provide fairly substantial (at least 400w) but it will not be a problem in my Everest 1010W ![]()
For connections, if your diet is equipped graphics card requires two cables, an 8 Pins Pins and a 6 (the 8800 GTS does require a socket 6 Pins). Molex adapters may nevertheless be the case if your diet is not last generation.

Both are made visible to the right of the photo.
Our Ati HD 4890 has an HDMI output and a power Display Port to connect any display of the latest generation without DVI (LCD HD Ready or Full HD) ... then Exit the S-VHS, which was still present on the 8800 GTS and who is increasingly replaced by HDMI.

Ati HD 4890 vs Nvidia 8800 GTS
Let's talk now a bit of performance:
It is difficult to compare and evaluate the performance of a graphics card because the latter vary greatly depending on other elements of the configuration of the machine, here are the main elements of the test configuration:
- CPU: Intel Core2Quad Q9550
- Ram: 4GB OCZ Reaper HPC DDR3
- Motherboard: Asus Rampage Extreme X48
- Graphics card: Vapor-X Sapphire HD 4890 2GB
- Power: Fortron Everest 1010
Under Windows Seven, the performance index of the configuration gives the following results:

The maximum score in the index of performance of Windows 7.9:
Calculations per second: 7.5
Memory operations per second: 7.5
Performance Suite for Windows Aero: 7.6
Performance graphics for games and 3D business applications: 7.6
Transfer rate data for the disk: 5.7
And here are the results of benchemarks that are well known 3DMark 2006 and 3DMark Vantage using this configuration:

3DMark 2006

3DMark Vantage
Comparison after changing the graphics card and processor.
In terms of results in games bah there is not much to say except that everything happens with all options pushed up even in very recent games like Call of Duty Modern Warfare 2 or Dirt 2.
Say that with the Sapphire HD 4890 is it possible to run two games simultaneously in full screen on a dual-screen setup that could not stand the 8800 GTS (I know it serves no purpose but to give an idea ^ ^)
Enjoy with ATI graphics cards ![]()
